Charles (“Charlie”) Barr has more than 34 years of litigation experience. He was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2012 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® for Appellate Practice and Commercial Litigation. Charlie has also earned the highest Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating of “AV.”

Charlie has handled a wide variety of civil trials and appeals, including business and real estate disputes, breach of contract claims, Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) claims, environmental claims, and consumer class action matters. His particular strength is written advocacy, which he has practiced in state and federal courts at the appellate and trial levels, and before various administrative agencies. Charlie has taught continuing legal education courses on written advocacy, as well as on discovery, witness preparation, and civil procedure. He also participates in numerous bar-sponsored volunteer activities to bring information about the legal system to the general public.

In 2010, Charlie was elected Vice President of the Milwaukee Bar Association, the nation’s fifth oldest bar association. This position leads to the presidency of the MBA, which Charlie will assume in June 2012. He received the MBA’s Distinguished Service Award in 2009.

What happened to Croen & Barr LLP? After more than 18 years as partners, Fred Croen and I have transitioned to a less formal and more flexible business relationship that better suits our needs as each of us pursues special projects and interests. While we now have formally separate law practices, Fred serves as “Of Counsel” to my practice, and I serve as “Of Counsel” to Fred’s new firm, Croen Law Offices LLC. (You can link to Fred’s new website from this page.) As “of counsel,” Fred is available for consultation and we are able to work together on individual matters, as dictated by my clients’ needs. I have the same role in Fred’s practice.

Fred and I have adjacent offices on the 18th Floor of the 250 Plaza Building—the building in which we have practiced since 1993. Julia Avrunina, our assistant, continues to serve both our practices.

As changes go, this one is more modest than radical, but it is a change nonetheless. I look forward to continuing my practice in its new configuration.
